Collaborative Ministry Leadership in a Constantly Changing World

An Open Enrolment Course

Thursday evenings February 2nd to 16th, 2023, 7:00pm to 9:00pm, online

In our changing world, the ways we used to lead in the church are just not working anymore. How many five-year plans were scuttled by the pandemic? How many ‘lone-ranger’ style leaders have burned out? Where are we going and how are we going to get there?
Effective leadership for the church today, and into the future, is collaborative – lay people and clergy, paid staff and unpaid disciples. And for this to work, everyone needs to be on the same page.
This course is open to all – clergy or lay – and timed to take place as new leadership teams are formed at annual general meetings/vestry meetings. Congregational leaders may wish to participate together, but individuals are also welcome. All students will learn the tools and techniques of ministry leadership that can help you lead your congregation faithfully and well.
Over the three course sessions, you will learn the leadership implications of systems theory, adaptive leadership, and leading through liminal times, learning from practical case studies along the way.

Instructor: The Rev. Dr. Heather McCance is Director of Pastoral Studies at Montreal Diocesan Theological College. After serving for twenty years in parish ministry in a number of parishes in the Diocese of Toronto, Heather served as the Ministry Developer for the Diocese of Rupert’s Land (out of the city of Winnipeg) for four years before joining us in Montreal.

Learn Together

We want to encourage people to learn together. You can join this course as an individual, but we also encourage you to gather with a friend or group in a parish hall, living room, or over Zoom to participate in and to discuss the class afterwards using the resources we provide. Whether you have three people or a dozen people gathered together, register as a group and the cost is the same. Group leaders will be given a Zoom link which they can distribute to their group members.

FEES

Regular: $80/person, $200/group

Friends of the College: $70/person, $165/group

There will be a $25 late fee for anyone who registers after January 29th, 2023.

If any groups are unable to gather physically together in the same room, one group member may pay the group rate and distribute the link to the other group members, rather than paying for each connection.
