University Street in downtown Montreal is the hub of theological education in the midst of a world-class city. A network of longstanding and close relationships binds together three institutions on both sides of the street and allows us all to deliver outstanding theological education for ministry.
Together, the combined work of McGill University’s School of Religious Studies and the Montreal School of Theology creates an environment of rigorous academic study, deep pastoral formation, prayerful support, and ecumenical encounter in which students are challenged to grow and mature in their calling to lead God’s people in the world in the 21st century.
Montreal School of Theology
On the east side of University Street, Montreal Dio and The Presbyterian College, work together to train leaders for Christian ministry in a variety of denominations and contexts around the world. The two colleges are collectively known as the Montreal School of Theology and each brings its own unique passions and history to the work of theological education.
McGill University
On the west side of University Street, McGill University’s School of Religious Studies is one of Canada’s leading places to study Christianity and other world religions. The School was founded by the denominational colleges of the Montreal School of Theology in 1948. Faculty in the colleges continue to teach courses at McGill. The school offers undergraduate and graduate programs that attract students from around the world. Most residential students at Dio are registered in either the Bachelor of Theology program (either as a terminal degree or as part of the Master of Divinity program) or the Master of Sacred Theology program. Under our longstanding affiliation agreement, students affiliated with the college and enrolled at McGill in one of these programs, pay tuition directly to the college and not to McGill.
